How to Apply for a Grant

The SCCA Foundation’s mission is to preserve, protect and expand the gifts and opportunities found in SCCA motorsports for future generations to enjoy.

As a Type II supporting organization under §509(a)(3) and Treas. Reg. §1.509(a)-4(e), the Foundation’s money may only flow to (a) SCCA itself, (b) the “community class” that SCCA serves, or (c) an individual within that community class — even if routed through an unrelated intermediary, provided it’s a grant to the individual and not to the intermediary organization. The Foundation must never grant funds directly to any organization other than SCCA, its Regions and entities.

Grants must serve a genuine Charitable Purpose in the §501(c)(3) sense (charitable or educational), benefit the community broadly rather than SCCA’s members specifically, and confer no more than incidental private benefit.

Grant Guidelines

Funding Priorities

The Foundation seeks to fund projects that align with its mission and vision. Priority will be given to proposals that:

Support education and training for SCCA members, volunteers, and future leaders.
Promote youth engagement and development in motorsports.
Preserve and share the history and heritage of SCCA and amateur motorsports.
Expand access and inclusivity in motorsports participation.
Foster partnerships with educational institutions or community organizations in a manner associated with amateur motorsports.

Examples of Eligible Projects

Examples of projects that may be considered for funding include:

Driver education and safety training programs.
Workshops or seminars for volunteers, stewards, and officials.
Youth outreach initiatives, including STEM and motorsports education.
Veteran and active service member opportunities in motorsports.
Historical preservation efforts such as archiving, exhibits, or oral histories.
Programs that increase diversity and inclusion in SCCA activities.

What We Do Not Fund

The Foundation generally does not fund:

Individual race entries or personal racing expenses.
Charitable programs not associated with motorsports and the SCCA.
Projects that do not demonstrate alignment with the Foundation’s mission.
For-profit ventures or commercial sponsorships.
Funding requests for other non-profit organizations.
Political or lobbying activities.

Application Tips

To strengthen your application, be sure to:

Clearly explain how your project supports the Foundation’s mission and vision.
Provide specific, measurable deliverables.
Include a realistic and detailed budget.
Describe how you will evaluate success and sustain the project.

Application Instructions

Applications must be submitted using the SCCA Foundation’s Grant Application Form with additional information attached as needed.
Applications should clearly indicate the proposed timing of the requested funding.
Applications should ideally be submitted a minimum of 180 days in advance of the desired date of funding, and a need for faster funding should be brought to the Foundation’s attention at the time of the application.
