We just missed the window to the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce wedding, and our phone calls to Elon Musk to reserve two seats on Starship went unanswered. What to do?

Enter John Kruse, of Kruse Auctions in Auburn, IN. Through our partners at Salt Marketing, Kruse sent us a short message: “I have a car that the SCCA might be interested in.”

What an understatement. What Kruse had acquired would turn out to be a first for the Foundation’s Sweepstakes: a beautiful, rare, numbers-matching Porsche 911S that has SCCA (and CVAR and PCA) racing provenance.

The 1967 Porsche 911S occupies a special place in Porsche history. It was the first “S” (“Super”) version of the 911, combining a lightweight chassis, a high-revving engine, upgraded suspension, ventilated disc brakes, and distinctive Fuchs alloy wheels. The 911S became one of the most capable sports cars of the late 1960s: It won races in FIA Group 3 Touring, European Rally Championship, endurance racing, and SCCA competition. It won again at the Monte Carlo Rally, the Tour de Corse, and at the Marathon de la Route (Nürburgring).

More significantly, the 1967 Porsche 911S became the template for every 911 that followed: a high-revving flat-six, lightweight construction, precise steering, exceptional braking, and race-proven engineering. As the first—and purest—expression of the flagship 911, it remains near the summit of the most significant and collectible air-cooled Porsches.
