SCCA Archives: Preserving 80 Years of Club History

By Jeff Jacobs | Chairman, SCCA Foundation

With 80 years of history in American motorsports, the SCCA has accumulated a significant collection of records requiring proper storage, organization, and accessibility for research. Thanks to generous donations, the Foundation is funding this important preservation work through the SCCA Archives collection at the International Motor Racing Research Center (IMRRC) in Watkins Glen.

Every year, the SCCA Foundation has a minimum commitment of $25,000 in funding to support the Archives. But the need each year exceeds that amount. With the support of donors, the Foundation has been able to provide additional funding for the purchase more storage folders and boxes, more shelving, and specialized storage racks for things like large format poster and video recordings. We are working closely with the IMRRC staff to explore opportunities for digitization of records to enhance not only the preservation of the rich history of our club, but making it more accessible to future generation.

With your help, our goal is to increase the annual funding for the SCCA Archives so that Archives Technicians Rick Hughey and Joe Cali (who you’ll meet in the video below) can spend more time advancing the critical work preserving our Club’s history. Your donations to the SCCA Foundation make programs like these possible!
