Invited: Jeff Dahnert (SCCA, Finance); Melanie Murray (TRSS Coordinator); Peter Schneider (BOD Liaison); Velma Boreen (Minutes)

Meeting was called to order at 7:35 PM Eastern Time.

A motion was made by Bob, seconded by Howard, to approve the May meeting minutes. Motion passed.

The minutes for May will be forwarded to Rachel to post on the SCCA Foundation website.


FINANCIAL REPORT

Jeff Dahnert was able to provide a financial report through the end of May.

  • Question regarding the year over year financials.  Jeff indicated that the SCCA Foundation is on par with 2022

  • Budget is larger this year due to LMS, Regional Grant Development project, funds to the IMRRC for additional hours by IMRRC staff.

  • Financial obligation to the IMRRC for the second half of 2023 will be submitted in July, 2023

  • The ability to donate to the Foundation when a member renews their membership has been a good boost·     

Motion was made by Howard, seconded by Bob to accept the financial report.  Motion passed.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Executive Committee

  • Working on another round of Foundation subsidized loaner helmets with OG Racing

    • Still evaluating the graphics that OG is able to apply to the helmets

    • With RaceQuip, the graphics were applied by RaceQuip and then clear coat was applied. Not sure if OG is able/willing to do the same process

    • Suggestion was made to hold off for now. 

    • May try to touch base with Holley, the new owner of RaceQuip, to see if they are able to help out again.

Tire Rack Street Survival

  • Melanie reports that the program is doing well

    • 7 schools complete, 11 ready to go, 3 pending

    • South Carolina still waiting on approval

    • Detroit, Florida and Atlanta have all indicated interest in hosting at least one school yet in 2023

    • Goal for 2023 is 25-30 schools

  • Minor waivers continue to present issues

    • 50% of paper waivers not filled out completely/correctly

    • Lots of pushback by parents

    • Online system for non-SCCA members not easy to use

    • Organizers of SCCA schools are frustrated with the minor waiver issues

    • What system does BMW use for minor waivers? Melanie will check.

  • Monthly Zoom calls with BMW/CCA

    • Have been discussing update presentation for new and existing organizers.

  • Good article in SportsCar! 

    • Melanie will continue to do a series of articles on TRSS topics

    • Suggestion was made to interview Matt Edmonds as Tire Rack has been involved since the beginning of the program

    • Consider a video interview so that it can be posted to the SCCA and Foundation website

  • Supplies for schools are good

  • Melanie continuing to work on gift card situation with Scott.  Arnie will do some checking on this as well.

Fundraising Committee

  • Donations report for May show 293 people donating to the Foundation

  • Sweepstakes open and funds coming in

    • In addition to continuing to make announcements in SCCA Marketing materials, we are doing Facebook ads, asking Hendrick about a Facebook or Twitter post, will email REs, asking for Regional publication promotions and in early August, we will have a “Flash Prize’ package of NASCAR 75th Anniversary memorabilia.

  • Bob is working with Hendrick on having them post as we

Communications Committee

  • Legacy Society moving forward – need to encourage longer term donations

  • Currently stalled on Legacy stories

    • Jim will work with Brian Bielanski, the SCCA Podcast host, to get legacy stories out via that method

    • Peter will mention that the BOD may be able to help with Legacy stories

Archives

  • IMRRC continues with the search for a new archivist.

  • Rick and Joe at the IMRRC will continue working extra hours until the end of June

  • Discussed the August and September gatherings in Watkins Glen

    • The Cameron Argetsinger Award on August 18th will be presented to Richard Childress

      • Bob, Arnie, Raleigh and Velma will be attending that banquet

  • The September gathering is to celebrate 25 years of the IMRRC with an open house.  That date is 9-30.

    • Jeff will be attending that banquet.  Bob will be work with the IMRRC staff to potentially give Jeff a few minutes to make a presentation.

  • Fund raising for the new building is still up in the air.

Women on Track

  • An official Time Trials committee has been established

    • The committee was able to start working right away on scholarships for two women to attend the Time Trials Nationals in October at NCM.

    • They received 7 very good applications and two women have been chosen.

      • Natalie Haizlip and Cassandra Light are the two recipients

      • The committee will get an article about these two women to post on the SCCA and the SCCA Foundation website.

  • Tere brought up the Wendi Allen Scholarship Fund and how those applications and funds are handled.

    • Currently there are no clear-cut guidelines so Tere will work with the committee involved with the WASF

    • The scholarships need to be handled as a reimbursement of expenses after a WASF winner has attended events.

    • An agreement has been reached with Mazda Motorsports and they will be reimbursing the Foundation for the $1500 that was sent to the 3rd WASF winner.

    • Mazda Motorsports will also be covering the expenses for the WoT brunch on Monday morning at Solo Nationals.

Region Development Grants

  • After concern over the Foundation’s 501c3 tax exempt status, the second quarter grants for 2023 have been resumed and Regions chosen to receive the grants.

    • There were 11 applications, 4 were completed correctly and completely, 7 were incomplete.

    • Regions receiving the grants were:

      • Philadelphia Region – Repair/maintain race surface

      • Northwestern Ohio Region – Purchase a defibrillator and offer first aid training

      • Colorado Region – Funds for new digital radios                  

VETMotorsports and Formula SAE

  • Status Quo on VETMotorsports

  • Dayle Frame presented the Carroll Smith Award at the Electric competition for Formula SAE/EV

OLD BUSINESS

  • The 1965 Corvette from Wilma and Costa Dunias arrived in Indianapolis and will be delivered to The Hobby Shop in Carmel to be checked over and an appraisal completed.

NEW BUSINESS

  • Jim W. presented an idea for subsidized rain lights for Formula cars. He will bring a specific proposal to the next meeting.

  • Could we set up a “video booth” at Lincoln for members to do a brief recording of their favorite memory of Solo Nationals?
