SCCA Foundation Board of Directors
Thursday, July 14, 2022 @ 7:30PM Eastern Time
Zoom

PUBLISHED MINUTES

Directors: Jeff Jacobs (Chair), Arnie Coleman (Exec. Dir.), Carla Russo (Sec./Treas.), Raleigh Boreen, Bob Eddy

Invited: Peter Schneider (BOD Liaison), Kristen Poole (SCCA Comms), Velma Boreen (Minutes)

Meeting was called to order at 7:43PM Eastern Time

Motion to approve the May minutes was motioned by Carla, 2nd by Bob with one adjustment. Motion to adjourn the meeting in May was 2nd by Arnie. Because of his position on the board, he cannot make that motion. Bob suggested that Arnie’s name be eliminated from that 2nd. (According to Robert’s Rules of Order, there is no need to make a motion or second to end a meeting.) Motion passed to accept the May minutes. These will be sent to Rachel to post on the SCCA Foundation website.

FINANCIAL REPORT

Jeff submitted the financial report through the end of May

  • May was a break-even month

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Project Tracker
Jeff shared with the committee the Project Tracker that he, Arnie, and Kristen are using with projects being worked on

  • Several Foundation items on the list have been implemented or completed.

  • A great tool to make sure that the Foundation doesn’t lose sight of what commitments have been made.

Helmets
The helmets for the loaner helmet program are scheduled to be in Topeka the end of July or beginning of August

  • Additional helmets were ordered to allow the surplus to be added to the merchandise list. Approximately 35-40 helmets will be available for Regions to order.

FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE

June 2022 Donations Report

  • 212 Donations totaling $4,166.03.

  • The minimum donation that can be made when members renew is $1.

2022 Sweepstakes Prizes Update

  • Skip Barber 3-Day Racing School package, with a $6,500 value

  • The driver would need to provide insurance for the school, approximately $1,650.

    • Suggestion was made that the Foundation would give these funds to the driver to purchase the insurance in their name to lessen the potential liability that the Foundation could have

  • Sweepstakes will be a late summer/early fall campaign

Legacy Giving Initiative

  • This project is on a temporary hold status

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE

Website/SportsCar

  • Things going well with both the website and SportsCar articles

TIRE RACK STREET SURVIVAL COMMITTEE

The schedule is filling with schools

  • Schools in the Philadelphia area have done well and are sold out

ARCHIVES

  • August 19th is the banquet at the IMRRC in Watkins Glen

    • The meeting with Jenny, the new director for the IMRRC and the IMRRC board is scheduled for Saturday, August 20th. Bob will verify the time.

    • The building where the SCCA archives are will be “toured” on Friday.

WOMEN ON TRACK

Tere was unable to be on the call so Velma brought the Foundation committee up to speed on what is happening with the various scholarships

  • Two women have been chosen for the Road Racing scholarships

    • One lives close to Pitt Race so she will be given the opportunity to work with Dan Dennehy-Rodriguez and the generous offer that he made for his car to be used at the event the end of August at Pitt Race.

  • The other scholarships that are available – Road Rally, RallyCross and Volunteers for the Runoffs – are in the process of getting the surveys out. Decisions on those winners should be made soon.

VETMotorsports and FORMULA SAE

VETMotorsports is struggling to get veterans who want to participate at National events.

  • The National Tour at Bristol had a veteran from Kentucky run E Street. He is an active autocrosser with Kentucky and Central Kentucky Regions currently.

Formula FSAE

  • The Carroll Smith Cup was awarded to Ron Matthews, University of Texas-Austin at the FSAE competition in May at Michigan International Speedway.

    • There is now a process in place for past winners of the Carroll Smith Cup and Foundation board member(s) to work together to determine future winners of the Cup.

OLD BUSINESS

Bob has been to 801 in Topeka to verify how much material there is to be taken to the IMRRC.

  • He has lined up a trailer in Topeka that is large enough to take all items in one trip.

  • He will need help loading the material into the trailer.

    • Perhaps Arnie and a few members from Kansas Region can help.

NEW BUSINESS

SCCA Hall of Fame
A proposal has been made to bring the SCCA Hall of Fame process under the umbrella of the SCCA Foundation

  • This may be a good opportunity for fund raising

  • There are a number of concerns regarding this potential change

    • Funding the Hall of Fame trophies?

    • Video production for the Hall of Fame presentation?

  • When concerns have been addressed, the Foundation would make a presentation to the Board of Directors.

SCCA Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska
A proposal has been made to work with the Museum of American Speed in Lincoln, Nebraska

  • The museum is very interested in housing the SCCA Hall of Fame information as a permanent display.

    • This display would be in a room solely dedicated to our Hall of Fame recipients

  • The museum is also very interested in a long-term and rotating display of SCCA highlights.

    • 2023 is the 50th running of Solo Nationals and the museum would be interested in highlighting that milestone for 12-18 months. The ideal plan would be to have this in place in time for the Spring Nationals which are held Memorial Day weekend.

  • These potential plans are not intended to conflict with or duplicate the SCCA Archives work at the IMRRC. When plans are being made for the rotating displays, an agreement would be drafted to make sure that the Museum of America Speed and the IMRRC would work together to supply pictures, information, etc. This subject can be a topic of discussion at the meeting on August 20th.

  • Raleigh and Velma will be in Lincoln starting August 29th. The plan is to meet with Tim Matthews at the Museum to finalize what can be done. Bob and potentially Arnie will try to make that meeting as well.

VETMotorsports
Pete Cline with VETMotorsports has been in contact with Mike Cobb in regards to bringing VETMotorsports under the umbrella of SCCA.

  • Pete feels they have maxed out their capabilities and fund-raising abilities

  • Mike is not enthusiastic about this idea

    • Inc. currently does not have the bandwidth to take on another project

  • Should we talk to Rick/Heyward about making this an Experiential Program?

  • What is the net benefit to the club?

  • The plus side has been the relationship with the military and site access

  • Decision was made to table this item

Next call is Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 7:30 PM Eastern Time.

Motion to adjourn meeting made by Bob. Meeting adjourned at 9:21 PM Eastern Time
